About Rebecca Young – Young Psychology

Director of Young Psychology • Chartered Educational Psychologist

I am a Chartered Educational Psychologist with more than 24 years’ experience working across education, health and care. I also work selectively with international clients through recommendation.

I trained at the Tavistock Centre in London, in educational and psychology with a therapeutic and psychodynamic approaches. I have subsequently been the privileged to work with many children, families and professionals since qualifying in 2001.

My work is guided by values that are central to who I am and routed in psychological understanding of the circumstances that require my support: compassion, kindness, empathy, curiosity and a belief in the power of human resilience.

I am committed to creating safe, thoughtful spaces where emotions, anxiety, fear, shame, anger, frustration & sadness can be shared by young people, parents/carers and professionals, enabling them to feel heard, understood and supported. I will look a strategies on how to remove these barriers that get in the way of support.

Alongside my professional training, I am deeply influenced by the practices that help me maintain balance and wellbeing — including dance, Pilates, yoga and embracing nature. These practices help me stay strong in body and mind, grounded and energised, and where I reflect these same messages I offer to others: wellbeing is not an add-on, but a foundation of health, recovery and wellbeing.

What I do:

I specialise in understanding how children and young people learn, think, feel and behave, in both educational and social situations. I explore their personal journey and the factors that have influenced them along the way.

Core Services include:

  • Consultation for schools, families and multidisciplinary teams
  • Training and professional development
  • Reflective supervision for leaders, psychologists and wellbeing practitioners
  • Psychological assessment for children and young people
  • Therapeutic support for emotional regulation, anxiety and behavioural needs

Why work with me

At the heart of my practice is a belief that every child deserves to feel seen, valued and understood — and every adult supporting them deserves the space, confidence and clarity to do their best work. Helping children, families and professionals understand and strengthen these foundations is both the purpose and the privilege of my work.

I follow a neurodiversity-affirming approach, recognising that every child learns and develops differently. The child’s voice and best interests sit at the centre of every assessment, consultation and decision.

Helping people nurture emotional wellbeing, mental resilience and creating safe environment to thrive is not just my profession; it is a meaningful part of who I am.
